Dusting off the Old Blog in the Attic

Today I was contemplating whether I should make a whole new website for my art or to revive this blog that has been sitting idle for a number of years. My creative life hasn't been wholly idle, but when we moved out of the Northern Virginia are in the summer of 2008, the opportunities that abound in a metropolitan area dry up and blow across the plains like a tumbleweed when you move to Eastern New Mexico. I will post the meager amount of art that I created there and during a brief time in California. We are now back in the DC area and I'm getting re-established. Hopefully, the blog will flourish in the coming months and years.

(2008) I participated in my children's elementary school Multiple Intelligences Festival, where I showed printmaking tools and explained the process of intaglio printmaking. I met many people that day, including a man who told me that there was a group in town, called the Pintores Art League. (I had previously searched the internet and the newspaper archives for Clovis Art League, Curry County Society of Art, etc., etc.)

(2009) I joined the Pintores Art League when I entered their annual juried show called Spring Fling (Juror: Dr. Jan Lloyd). Happily, I received a third place award in Photography for a Polaroid transfer titled, Heroes at Rest and a first place award for my mockingbird mixed media piece titled, Mimicry. Here I found a group of artists (notably Sondra Forrest, Ed Des Lauriers, and Lois Snyder, who welcomed me warmly) that hold monthly meetings featured visiting artists and I was impressed by several, including Von Venhuizen and Tom Matthews. Heather Hancock is doing a great job leading PAL currently and they can be found on Facebook.  Later that year, I participated in the Clovis Ethnic Fair, the PAL 3rd Annual Art Auction.

(2010) I started the new year as the featured artist at the Clovis Carver Public Library. In April, I again entered the PAL Spring Fling, winning first in Multi-Media and Photography for Out of the Nest and Ballston Blossom, respectively.

(2011) Just before we moved away from New Mexico, I entered the Pintores Spring Fling for a third time. Juried by Bruce DeFoor, I was shocked and honored to win best of show for a new watercolor I had done of a grain elevator, down the road in Melrose, NM, titled On Denby Avenue.
